Mayor's Leadership Council

Do you have a passion for local government and making a difference in the community? Apply to join the Mayor's Leadership Council with the City of Goose Creek!

Goose Creek Mayor Greg Habib introduced the Mayor's Leadership Council (MLC) in early 2025. The MLC is a nine-month commitment that allows selected students to work together on an impactful service project while learning how local governments function. Rising Juniors and Seniors at Northwood Academy, Stratford, Goose Creek, Cane Bay High School, and homeschool students with an interest in public service and leadership are invited to apply for the unique program. 

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current sophomore or junior in high school 
  • Attend Cane Bay, Goose Creek, Stratford High School, Northwood Academy, or be a homeschooled student living within Goose Creek city limits 
  • Have a minimum 3.5 GPA 
  • Demonstrate an interest in leadership, public service, and community engagement 
  • Be able to commit to all program requirements, including meetings, activities, and project participation 

Applications for the 2026-2027 class open April 20, 2026.

Students must have applications submitted by May 17, 2026 at 11:59pm.

Non-Family Recommendation (Required, must be completed by a trusted adult supervisor)

  • All three forms must be submitted by the deadline for the application to be considered complete. 
  • It is the student’s responsibility to ensure recommendations are submitted on time. 

"I have tremendous faith in the next generation of leaders being produced right here in Goose Creek," Mayor Habib said. "I want to educate, nurture and inspire these young leaders, and that's what MLC will do."
