State's new Hands-Free law takes effect Feb. 28

South Carolina’s new Hands-Free Law takes full effect this weekend. Beginning Saturday, Feb. 28, holding a mobile device while driving can result in a ticket.
Drivers who use their phone to read, send text messages, check email, watch videos, take photos – or for any other use – endanger themselves and others. Using a phone while driving takes your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel, and your mind off of driving!
The GCPD will be enforcing this new law. In Goose Creek, a first offense carries a $232.50 fine and no points; and a second offense carries a $440 fine and two points.
Mobile devices can still lawfully be used in voice-activated or hands-free mode, and when your car is parked or stopped.
