Former Goose Creek Mayor James M. Richards Passes Away at 93; Remembered for Leadership and Service

We are saddened to learn of the loss of former Goose Creek Mayor James M. Richards, who passed away on Sept. 4 at the age of 93 in Baytown, Texas. He was Mayor of Goose Creek from May 22, 1974, to June 15, 1976.
Mayor Richards brought energy, wisdom and foresight to Goose Creek City Hall during his time in office, when the young municipality faced many challenges.
Local services for Mayor Richards will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Carolina Funeral Home and Gardens (7113 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston). Visitation will be at 10am, with a service at 11am.
A U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, he was born in West Virginia, and enjoyed a long and successful engineering career with Exxon that included stops in Illinois, South Carolina, Canada and Texas. He is survived by his wife, Goldie, three children, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
