Good news, everyone! We have been notified by Santee Cooper that the second series of water samples have passed all safety tests. City of Goose Creek water is safe to drink, and the Boil Water Advisory has officially been lifted.


 

There is also no longer a need to limit water use in your home or business.


 

Thanks to Santee Cooper for the great work this week, and for staying in constant communication with us.

6:30am Thursday Update:
So far so good on the water testing being conducted by Santee Cooper: Our Public Works Department was notified that the first water sample tested met all safety requirements. A second sample was taken at 5:36am Thursday, and is now being processed. The results of the second sample will be available Friday morning.
If the second sample also passes all safety requirements, the Boil Water Advisory will be lifted Friday morning.
Until then, the Boil Water Advisory is still in place for City of Goose Creek customers on Thursday. Thank you for your patience & cooperation! We will continue to share any and all updates.

3:30 pm Wednesday Update

We have some frustrating news to share. As you know, the City was told that a 24-hour waiting period after the water line was fixed would be necessary before the boil water advisory could be lifted. In that 24 hours, Santee Cooper would administer tests to ensure the water’s safety.

A little while ago we learned that the State of South Carolina’s Department of Environmental Services is insisting that an additional testing series be administered, adding 24 hours to the process. This is not what we had been told, and it is frankly not our interpretation of the state law in question. Still, we respect the state’s authority.

And so: the Boil Water Advisory will now continue through Thursday, and if test results show the water is safe, it will be lifted Friday morning. Until then, the advisory will continue, and we will continue to share any and all updates we receive.

Again: Thank you for your patience. We share your frustration about this, but things will be back to normal soon.

4:15am Wednesday - The water line repair is complete, and the refilling of our water tanks is underway.
The Boil Water Advisory is still in place for City of Goose Creek water customers and will continue until the water is tested for safety. We have been told that test will be completed within 24 hours. We will update everyone as soon as Santee Cooper confirms that the advisory can end.
Until the advisory is ended, continue to boil all water used for drinking or cooking for at least one minute. Thank you for your continued patience & cooperation!

4:15pm Tuesday - Here’s the latest on the Boil Water Advisory:
 
We have received another update, and Santee Cooper expects a permanent repair of the ruptured water main to be completed Tuesday night.
 
After the repair is complete, we will still need to continue the Boil Water Advisory for approximately 24 hours while Santee Cooper tests the water in the line. The all-clear from that test will end the advisory and return things to normal.
 
While the repairs are still being made, please continue to conserve as much water as possible. This will continue to leave reserve water in our tanks and decrease the chances of an outage.
 
Our Boil Water Advisory is for City of Goose Creek water customers. While the advisory continues, please boil any water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or any other activity that involves the ingestion of water. The water should be boiled for at least one minute.

We understand that water in our region comes from different agencies, and it can be confusing. If you pay your monthly water bill to the City of Goose Creek, then you are a Goose Creek customer and the information we’re sharing is for you. If you make your water payment to another agency such as Charleston Water, then although you may live in Goose Creek, this advisory does not affect you.
 
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation. We are optimistic that tonight’s repair will be successful, and we will be back to normal within another day or so. We will continue to share all updates as we receive them.

10am Tuesday, March 17 Update: Santee Cooper is continuing to work on repairing the water main, and that repair is tentatively expected to be completed Tuesday evening. If this happens as expected, a sample test of the water will take approximately 24 hours from the time the repair is completed. This means that we expect the Boil Water Advisory to remain in effect at least through Wednesday evening. When this is definitely confirmed, we will announce with exact times.

As the boil water advisory continues, please also continue to use as little water as possible. This will help us keep our City water tanks full during this process, and avoid any water outage.

6:20am Tuesday, March 17 Message from our Public Works Department: City water customers should boil all water for at least one minute before drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods or dishes, brushing teeth or performing any other activity involving the human consumption of water. Questions regarding this notice should be directed to the City of Goose Creek Department of Public Works (843) 824-2200.

4:30am Tuesday, March 17 Update: Santee Cooper’s repair on the water main is still ongoing. As of now, the City is issuing a boil water advisory for all City water customers (this does not include Charleston Water customers).

If you are a City water customer, please boil water for drinking or cooking for at least one minute before use.

Additionally, please conserve as much water as possible. Water levels will remain lower than usual Tuesday while repairs continue.

Monday night, March 16:
Santee Cooper is in the process of repairing a water main that services City of Goose Creek water customers. Here is a message from Santee Cooper:
 

Earlier this evening, a contractor operating heavy equipment near Moncks Corner punctured the main line from the Lake Moultrie Regional Water Plant. The contractor was not working for Santee Cooper. The line serves the water agencies operated by the City of Goose Creek, the City of Summerville Commissioners of Public Works, and portions of Berkeley County.
 

Santee Cooper crews are at the site assessing the damage and necessary repairs. In the meantime, customers of these agencies are urged to conserve water as much as possible. We will update the public once we have more information.


The Goose Creek, Summerville and Berkeley County agencies serve approximately 200,000 people, and some may notice a drop in water pressure later tonight. Santee Cooper is keeping these agencies informed as our assessment continues. A boil water advisory could be issued later this evening from any or all of the affected agencies.


“This is a large water transmission pipe, and our crews are working as quickly as possible to locate the break and begin the repair work,” said Mike Finissi, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer. “Our thanks go out to the emergency responders and crews from our Lake Moultrie customer agencies for aiding in this effort.”
